You

So it turns out that most likely you will still be there
I have already noticed this before
You are bright, but not the brightest
And our family is not the wealthiest
All I wanted you to do was only to aim higher
However small the chance is
So that you don’t get depressed when you know the reality
Like how I did

So, I want to wish you luck
Be careful
It may look convenient there at the wallow
But stay enlightened for the newest advancements
I will always be here to assist you,
But you must also try your best
More than the standard there

One more
Stay away from the comfort zone.
It’s very very dangerous.

    So this is his final decision, eh?
    it must tear your heart apart. Dont worry, put trust on him, be there when he needs you. Make sure you dont bring this issue in the future when things get ugly for him.
    Don’t worry, he’ll do fine,
    Because he’s your brother afterall

    Yah anyway I’ll try to motivate him. He is not as ambitious as me. Hope your brother receive better education in Malaysia.๐Ÿ™‚

    Hopefully he will. It’s not only the education system that I most worry about, rather his willingness to learn and to keep improving. Ini toh yang penting?๐Ÿ˜›
    Yah, to put it simply,my brother is on the same page as yours, nilai nya bagus, tapi bukan pemenang olimpiade dll, mau biayain kuliah di luar asia juga tampaknya ga mungkin, pokoknya sama lah. Tapi jangan bilang ‘mau gimana lagi’ gitu lah, apalagi di depan ybs, itu IMO masih sisa2 you being too pushy๐Ÿ˜›

    Well, I hope your brother will find his own way wherever he is. And shall they not live in regrets!

    Never give up hopes! Kanpaii~:mrgreen:

    BTW this is not final, We’ve still got several months. I’ll try to convince him go to Japan or China or Singapore.

    Itโ€™s not only the education system that I worry most, rather his willingness to learn and to keep improving.

    To me, both play part. I don’t know about social science, but you know, for example in my field of study, Bioinformatics, Computer Graphics, Computation Theory, AI, Vision, Image Processing, Natural Language Processing don’t get enough attention in Indonesia. All those students care about are only Network, Web Programming, Operating System (well, those Linux fanboys), and Database. And have you ever heard about a guy in CS who can’t write programs?

    And about willingness, this is rather dangerous. When you have overwhelming motivation and know recent advancements in scitech, it’s easier to go abroad. What happen to those who don’t, when they know that the lecturer never comes to teach, or lullaby them with puppet stories, while s/he is supposed to teach AI? What happen to those who don’t, when they hear such a sentence, “Having extended period of study (i.e > 4 years) is OK, because you can get more experience”. They will take them for granted! This is what I am afraid my brother will be influenced of. Hopefully he won’t.

    itu IMO masih sisa2 you being too pushy

    Yah, I am, for his sake. But maybe we have different concepts of “his sake”.๐Ÿ˜

    Never give up hopes! Kanpaii~

    Definitely. If he decides to read Physics, I still hope him to be able to go to CERN, or otherwise, other institutions of the same level. Mediocrity must not be our target.๐Ÿ˜€

    wew, I dont know that education system in Indonesia is that bad๐Ÿ˜•
    My brother go to ICT too, I hope in my uni all that you just mentioned above is better at least than in indonesia.

    Yah, I am, for his sake. But maybe we have different concepts of โ€œhis sakeโ€.

    Yeah, I guess we are.๐Ÿ˜›

    Good luck dalam pencarian scholarship-nya! Wish him all the best!๐Ÿ™‚

    Ooo jadi ini toh perkembangan terakhirnya๐Ÿ™‚

    yg terpenting adalah apa yang menjadi keputusannya adalah pilihannya sendiri yang dibuat dengan sepenuh hati.. karena itu yang menuntunnya untuk menjadi dirinya sendiri dalam perjalanan hidupnya๐Ÿ˜€

    Mungkin ada rencana lain dari Tuhan untuk adikmu. Kadang kita harus menempuh jalan berputar untuk sampai ke tempat tujuan:mrgreen:

    @Frea

    wew, I dont know that education system in Indonesia is that bad

    Itu belum termasuk skipping-lectures lecturers, ping-pong-like bureaucracy, Che-Guevara-wannabe students, etc. So, not only the education system, but also the environment!

    Yeah, I guess we are.

    Eee…maksud saya ‘we’ itu I and my brother.๐Ÿ˜›

    Makasih.๐Ÿ™‚

    @bima
    Lama ga onlen, ke mana aja bos. Jalan-jalan keliling Eropa yah? Dah dapet cewek bule belum?:mrgreen:

    Kalo go with the flow itu keputusan sepenuh hati bukan?:mrgreen:

    @Mizzy
    Jalan memutar? Kaya saya? Itu yang saya takutkan. Nanti dia depresi…ah, mungkin saja dia harus depresi dan mengalami krisis eksistensial dulu sebelum mendapat pencerahan.๐Ÿ˜

    The point is, if the quality of education in Indonesia don’t get better in the nex 20-30 years, I will not send my kids there to study scitech. Like they say, the kids should be better than the parents. I am also trying to fulfill this, so our family condition increases gradually from generation to generation.
